About ZenTactics

How ZenTactics Came To Be

"Remember that every single thing you've gone through has helped lead you to where you are today." -- Wayne Dyer
Avatar of Adam Appleson, author of ZenTactics.com

Hi, my name is Adam Appleson, the creator of ZenTactics. There are 2 reasons I didn't put up a real picture or use my real name. The first is that sometimes I tell personal stories that involve people I know and I don't wish to embarrass anybody. The second is that I'm also a private sort of person and because of the public nature of the Internet, this is a way to help preserve my privacy. However, that cartoon avatar I made looks somewhat like me, I promise. :)

This site is dedicated to adult survivors of abusive and dysfunctional families. I started this site to share helpful information for people who are recovering from child abuse. There are a lot of good self help books and websites out there, but I didn't notice any that really tried to deal with some of the specific issues abuse survivors always face.

I can tell you firsthand that recovering from child abuse is not always smooth sailing...

"The elevator to success is out of order today. You're going to have to take the stairway, one step at a time." -- Wayne Dyer

Even though I'm far along in recovery, I can tell you firsthand that it's a dynamic process. Sometimes you think you're all done, and then a new issue crops up. That's why I always recommend that abuse survivors enroll in therapy. It's been my experience a good therapist can really help you resolve old issues and deal with new ones.

But the good news is that overall, life has gotten a lot better thanks to all the personal development principles I've soaked up. I've grown in ways that were hard to imagine before. I've gotten in better physical shape, made new friends, and increased my confidence. A lot of the anger I used to feel has melted away.

Are you a psychologist?

"Once you begin working on your problem areas with small, daily, success-oriented goals, the problems will disappear." -- Wayne Dyer

No, but I've had a lot of therapy. :) I understand first-hand how abuse can affect your life in ways you only begin to realize much later as you start the recovery process. It affects your career choices, relationships, friendships, and pretty much everything in life. Heck, it even affects the way your brain develops. But I can tell you that when you set a goal to get better and you keep committed to it, life gets a whole lot better.

I also work hard to make sure that the information on this site is backed up by psychological research in addition to personal experience when possible. That's what makes it practical personal development.

A Small Confession

"Dreams can often become challenging, but challenges are what we live for." -- Travis White

I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm not perfect. I still have days where I say to myself "I thought I dealt with that issue." Then I go fix it or do whatever needs to be done to deal with it.

The point is, I have a much greater sense of happiness and fulfillment, and it's a good feeling. It's a feeling I want you to have.

I would like to convey one final thought. This site is NOT about me trying to tell you how to live your life.  If you've been abused, I'm sure you've probably had enough of that. Rather, I am trying to humbly share knowledge regarding what has worked extremely well for me. I hope by sharing this knowledge, it will help you or someone else live a happy life.

I wish you nothing but the best as you are healing from child abuse.

Practically and humbly yours,

Adam Appleson

Why People Subscribe

"I put off reading the report because it was 12 pages but it read quickly. I liked how it gave good advice but is not painfully long to read. This is a great report and I would recommend other abuse survivors read it." --Jane, New York City
